The Edmonton Oilers season has gone so poorly to this point that the team has waiver goalie Jack Campbell and is now relying on a tandem of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard in net. As a result, the team has been exploring options for upgrading in net and now they may have found a willing trade partner.

NHL Insider Reveals Trade Talks Between Oilers and Canadiens

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported on 32 thoughts this morning that the Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens are actively involved in trade discussions centered around goaltender Jake Allen.

"[The Oilers] spoke to Montreal, who do not need a goalie in return, about the possibility of trading Jake Allen, but I don't sense anything imminent."

Friedman noted that in his mind at least, a trade between the teams is not happening immediately. This makes sense as the Oilers are likely going to want to explore all their options instead of making a hasty decision.

Edmonton Oilers Goalie Problem Is Top Priority For Ken Holland

The Oilers currently have a 2-8-1 record along with a -18 goal differential. By far the leading cause of both those things has been the team's goaltending. The recent move of sending Jack Campbell down to the AHL shows just how desperate GM Ken Holland is in finding a solution in net. It would make sense then why he would ask the Canadiens about Jake Allen. He will likely be spending the next several days calling other GMs to ask about their goalies as well.

As seen on a trade involving goaltender Jake Allen is to be watched
