Today an NHL insider with a focus on the Edmonton Oilers reported that the team is open for business when it comes to trades. This statement of course has a few conditions.
Insider Indicates The Oilers Could Make Major Moves This Season
Today new posts on X from TSN insider Ryan Rishaug took fans inside the mind of the Oilers heading into the future. He believes that there could be pressure on Holland to make moves. Now, of course, several high-value assets are still off-limits.
Oilers/Holland thread:
All eyes are on Ken Holland right now and rightfully so. My sense is, outside their first round pick, all assets and options (29,97 aside) are in play to try and find a fix. Prospects, 2nd rounders, roster players, all of it on the table...
With all of these options on the table, the Oilers could go in several directions. To narrow the discussion a bit Rishaug discussed what kind of players the Oilers are looking to bring in.
but what Holland cannot do with his team in total free-fall - is nothing. Here are some things I believe they should be looking for outside G and D - any of these elements would be a positive add
-Cup experience
-Physicality/Toughness
-Positive locker room presence/energy..
All of these traits can be found in a wide array of players. Rishaug did have one player in mind that could fit the bill.
Insider Suggests An Oilers Trade Target & Gives An Update On Campbell
Rishaug continued and mentioned one player tho could fit all of the things that Holland might want to add.
A player like Pat Maroon would fit the bill on all three of these fronts - (Not sure his availability). There are others who check one or two of the boxes. Point is - Holland has to find a way to check a box, and it needs to happen now.
Maroon is a member of the Minnesota Wild who are currently struggling. Both teams were hoping to have playoff aspirations so a player-for-player swap would likely be the move.
After discussing Maroon Rishaug also tried to predict the future of Oilers goalie Jack Campbell. His prediction indicates that the veteran goalie's time in Edmonton might not be over.
Also, wouldn't be shocked to see Campbell get another look at some point. After a shaky start his game is turning a bit - we'll see, but solutions must also be found/generated internally.
Finally, if the core players don't find their collective game - and fast - none of this will matter much in the end (end)
With Campbell's trade value at an all-time low it could be wise to give him a chance to improve his stock. At this point, it can't get worse and if the Oilers find themselves out of the race it wouldn't hurt.
