Brad Treliving and the Toronto Maple Leafs have been heavily linked to a potential upcoming trade with the Calgary Flames for Nikita Zadorov. With Zadorov requesting a trade from Calgary, the Leafs in desperate need of a Defenseman, and Brad Treliving's previous connection with Calgary, it seems as though the Leafs would be a frontrunner for the highly sought-after defenseman.
The question becomes who exactly would Toronto be willing to part ways with in order to acquire Zadorov, and how desperate is Treliving to fix the Leaf blueline? According to this rumor circulating online, he could be looking at moving Klingberg and Minten for him.
Klingberg and Minten are two players that have been rumoured to be on the trade block for the Leafs. Klingberg, who signed with Toronto for 1 year at $4.15 million, has struggled significantly to start the season. Whether that is poor play or a nagging injury, Zadorov would be an improvement.
The bigger question is whether or not the Leafs are desperate enough to move Klingberg and Minten for Zadorov. Minten is one of the Leafs' best prospects, who impressed enough at camp this year to earn himself 4 games for the Leafs to start the season.
Moving both would definitely be paying over market price for Zadorov, however, the pressure and urgency could get Brad Treliving to pay a premium to fix his issues.
