Interestingly, this trade rumor does not involve William Nylander, instead, it involves two current Leafs defensemen going to the West Coast in exchange for another former Leaf blueliner.
It is believed that this rumor originated from the website "NHLTradeRumor.com" and it has the Leafs sending T.J. Brodie and Timothy Liljegren to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for ex-Leaf Ilya Lyubushkin.
It doesn't seem like this trade would make much sense for the Leafs, despite their logjam on defense.
This particular rumor is based on the fact that the Leafs need to shed cap in order to remain compliant once the regular season gets underway.
This deal would garner $3.65M in cap space for Toronto but it would also make the team significantly worse. As it stands then, it is very unlikely that a deal like this actually takes place.
With the season right around the corner stories like this might become a little more common but this particular trade rumor is too unrealistic to even fall within the realm of possibility.
