After another underwhelming season, Kyle Dubas decided to part ways with Jake Guentzel at the deadline, sending somewhat mixed signals to the rest of the team.
For the Penguins' core, this is frustrating. Malkin, 37, Letang, 36, and even Karlsson, 33, are all in the last stretch of their career. They definitely want to win another Stanley Cup before the end of their era in Pittsburgh.
Considering they'll likely miss the playoffs this season, for the second straight year, Sidney Crosby could be looking to join another team, with high Stanley Cup aspirations.
Nothing official happened at the deadline, but many rumors emerged, stating that Crosby could be interested in joining the Toronto Maple Leafs.
An interesting trade scenario emerged, and we wanted to know your take on it.
This season, all eyes in Toronto were turned to Brad Treliving as he navigated his first season as Leafs' GM.
Since he replaced Kyle Dubas at the helm of the team, Treliving granted massive contract extensions to both Auston Matthews and William Nylander. In their shadows, Mitch Marner has been great all season long, scoring 76 points in 62 games, placing him at the third rank on the team for points.
Marner, who'll be a free agent after the next season, could be on his last stretch with the Leafs. He has exceptional value on the trade market and will likely ask for a significant raise. The Leafs, who are already scuffed by the salary cap, could be looking to trade him.
In this new scenario, we proposed to trade Marner for Crosby one-for-one.
Check it out:
Marner, who's only 26, could be interested in joining his former GM's team. If Treliving believes he can lose Marner on the free agents market, trading him for Crosby, even at 35, would be an interesting move. In Pittsburgh, Marner could be a part of the rebuilding and be the next face of the team.
