A massive trade involving a top Seattle Kraken prospect has just been announced in the OHL only weeks before pre-season games are set to begin on August 30th.
The Brampton Steelheads announced on social media today that they've acquired Seattle Kraken Carson Rehkopf for not one, not two, but 10 draft picks. Three of the picks are second rounders in 2025, 2026 and 2027, three are third rounders, two of those coming in 2025 and one in 2028, three fourth rounders in 2025, 2026 and 2027, and finally a 2026 seventh round pick.
Rehkopf is 19-years-old and played in 60 games for Kitchener last season in the OHL, where he scored 52 goals and had 95 points. He also played 10 games in the playoffs, putting up 11 points. What's more about this fantastic player is that he also suited up for Team Canada at the 2024 World Juniors.
The Brampton Steelheads are going to be a force to reckoned with next season, especially with Rehkopf in their lineup. Experts are predicting Brampton to be the top team in the Eastern Conference next season. The team has a pair of 2025 draft eligible prospects in Jack Ivankovic and Porter Martone.
Fans of the game might be a little confused as to why Kitchener would have gotten rid of such a talented prospect who eclipsed the 50-goal mark last season, however the reason is that Kitchener is not really expected to contend next season as they are entering a transition period. Their two other top players Eduard Sale and Filip Mesar are expected to make the NHL next season with Seattle and Montreal, or likely the team's NHL affiliates, so they are looking to re-tool their roster to start fresh in a couple of years again.
The OHL is definitely an exciting league to watch, as it showcases the future NHL superstars. So many of today's players have come from that league, such as Edmonton Oilers franchise player Connor McDavid.
