Despite having a career year in 2024/25 that saw him tally 14 goals and 27 points in 56 games played, there have been reports of Nick Robertson being unhappy with his role in Toronto.
Unsurprisingly, there's been plenty of trade interest in the 22-year old this summer, and this latest trade sees Brad Treliving send him West for a very intriguing young talent.
The deal is a very simple one, with two teams swapping young forwards, with McBain being the perfect player to potentially take a bottom-six role from Ryan Reaves or David Kampf in 2024/25.
The 24-year old has now well and truly established himself in the NHL, with the 6-foot-3, 201 pound winger tallying 8 goals and 26 points in 67 games a year ago, the perfect complimentary piece for Toronto. Not only does he bring the energy that a young Reaves would have done, but he also has the physicality to effect the game in many different ways.
As for Robertson, he's shown that he can be a talented winger, and with the Utah HC having a young core of Clayton Keller, Dylan Guenther, Logan Cooley among others, he would fit right in with a team that's looking to build a long-term contender.
It's unclear what his role will be in Toronto this season, so if Treliving wants to make another positive move this summer, this would be a win-win for both teams.
