There was a lot of action in the NHL yesterday. With only eight days to go before the draft, two goaltenders were traded:
- The Calgary Flames sent Jacob Markstrom to the New Jersey Devils in return for Kevin Bahl and a 2025 first-round pick;
- Darcy Kuemper was dealt by the Washington Capitals to the Los Angeles Kings for Pierre-Luc Dubois.
With two goaltenders off the trade market, teams looking to add a goalie this summer will need to hurry.
That's what seems to be the case for the Ottawa Senators.
The Senators had yet another tough season and made many changes during the season. With a new head coach, president of hockey operations, and general manager, they could be an interesting organization to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
They have a few holes to fill in the lineup, but the focus is now on the goaltending unit.
The Senators' goalies Joonas Korpisalo and Anton Forsberg struggled this season. They both had .890 save percentages with 3.27 and 3.21 goals against average, ending the season at the 31st rank in the NHL.
According to Bruce Garrioch, they've shown interest in Boston Bruins' goaltender Linus Ullmark.
Per CBS:
Ullmark is one of the best goaltenders still available. He won the Vezina Trophy in 2022-23, and last season, he posted a 2.58 GAA and a .915 SV%.
With him between the pipes, the Senators could finally have their breakout season.
Stay tuned for the latest updates as we get closer to the NHL Draft and free agency.
