Dominik Hasek is one of the best goaltenders to ever set foot in the NHL, setting the bar for what it meant to be a superstar in the net.
His legacy is one that will never be forgotten by fans but could be challenged in his own home country due to unforeseen circumstances.
The Czech Hockey Hall of Fame had to close its doors for the foreseeable future due to financial troubles, meaning all of the equipment and memorabilia housed there had to go. Dominik Hasek was asked to come to the site and pick up his belongings, and the scene was caught on video.
Hasek can be seen loading up his equipment into a shopping cart, as he presumably brought it back to his home. Hasek is one of the biggest names in Czech hockey, so to see such a legend being forced to collect his belongings in a shopping cart is frustrating and sad.
The translated caption of the incident gives us English speakers a better idea of just how sad this scene really is.
Translation: Vezina Trophy, jerseys, skates, hockey sticks...Ring for [Stanley Cup...Everything you @hasek_dominik had to pack up and take three shopping carts to the car...It's not for nothing they say: 'Who doesn't appreciate history, doesn't appreciate himself'...Pry economics reasons... But before the World Cup? It's hard to recreate something like that.
It's clear that fans don't want to see Hasek's legacy forgotten, so hopefully the Hall can open again somewhere else.
