The shootout seems to be no one's favourite way to end a hockey game, however, it is still part of the game and can be entertaining at times. Last night, the Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs were forced to settle their battle with a shootout after an intense comeback from the Hurricanes.
Evgeny Kuznetsov is well known for his unique shootout style, which he skates extremely slowly down the ice as part of his move. Last night, he did the same thing, taking over 10 seconds to complete his attempt.
This drew a lot of criticism from fans, stating the obvious in how slow Kuznetsov was going.
The shootout wouldn't even have happened if it weren't for an epic comeback mounted by the Hurricanes in the final minutes of the game. The Leafs held a two-goal lead with just minutes left in the game, when the Hurricanes were able to score both, the final with just 6 seconds left, to tie and eventually win in the shootout.
These two teams are both poised to be competitive come the post-season, and at that point, the shootout won't even matter.
