Cale Makar Under Fire After Breaking His Silence On The World Juniors Scandal
This afternoon Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar spoke for the first time since the official charges have been filed against the five players implicated in the 2018 scandal. Since making his comments Makar has been taking heat for his comments.
Makar Breaks His Silence Regarding 2018 Scandal
Today Cale Makar was finally asked and able to give an answer about his thoughts on the 2018 World Juniors scandal that involved five of his Canadian teammates. In his comments, Makar said he was open with the investigators when they asked him and said it was a fortunate bounce he was not in attendance at the event where these alleged problems occurred.
"It's tough. I've been told not to comment on that ongoing investigation. I've been straightforward from the start. I wasn't there," Makar said. "It was a very fortunate bounce to not obviously be a part of something like that. I'm just going to leave it to the people who are handling the work right now. I can't
stress enough that I wasn't part of that." Makar has previously said he was not involved in the alleged incident and has cooperated with a Hockey Canada investigation.
Immediately Cale Makar found himself in hot water for these comments. Referring to the events as a fortunate bounce made it sound as though if he had been in attendance Makar could have been involved.

The response to Cale Makar's comments has not been received well. Many fans have been outraged by the choice of words by Makar when he broke his silence.
