Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar reveals Gabriel Landeskog's expected NHL return date
A new interview has emerged with Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar revealing when Gabriel Landeskog could return to the lineup.
The Colorado Avalanche have been without their captain Gabriel Landeskog for 2 full seasons now. He originally suffered a knee injury during the 2021-22 NHL season and then re-injured his knee during a training session as he neared his return.
Since having a knee cartilage transplant in May of 2023 not much has been reported about Gabriel Landeskog's condition. To this point, many fans assumed that the Avalanche's captain's career was over. However, a new interview with head coach Jared Bednar has provided hope for the future.
Jared Bednar provides a major update on Gabriel Landeskog's future
In a sit down with Tom Gulitti of NHL.com Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar was asked about Gabriel Landeskog. When speaking about the health of his captain Jared Bednar confirmed they are hoping to have Gabriel Landeskog back early in the 2024-25 season.
"He's trying to make a return here sometime near the start of the season, and if that goes well, it would be a really big boost for us," head coach Jared Bednar said Saturday, according to NHL.com's Tom Gulitti. "So, that's something we're all a little anxious about, but really excited about as well."
While the Colorado Avalanche would love to have Gabriel Landeskog back as soon as possible they are also letting him determine the process. He will be the one to tell the Avalanche when he is ready to return.
"It's been a long time now, so there's no rush," the bench boss said. "It's just all with what he's feeling comfortable with. Just what he's been able to do both in the gym with his training off the ice and what he's been able to do on the ice, we're certainly optimistic that he'll be able to come back."
The last time we saw Gabriel Landeskog play in the NHL he was electric despite dealing with injuries. In his 51 games that season, he racked up 59 points and was considered one of the best all-around forwards in the NHL.
With the NHL season on the horizon, it will be fun to see if we get any glimpses of Gabriel Landeskog at practice during training camp. Hopefully for the Avalanche, hockey fans, and Gabriel Landeskog we finally get to see him get back to the player he used to be.
