Despite his insisting that he has changed, Mike Babcock's old ways came out before he coached a game for the Columbus Blue Jackets, and this led to him parting ways just last week.
A former player
Unsurprisingly, given the way he famously treated players during his tenure as a coach, some of those former players have now called him out, including current Montreal Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis.
You have to evolve as a coach. If you're going to the dentist, are you going to the dentist that's got the 30 yr old equipment, or are you going to the dentist.. you know what I mean? You want to stay in the business, you have to evolve.
Given his role within the NHL right now, St. Louis was polite in his criticisms, and unless Babcock can truly change his ways, it may be the end of the 60-year old's coaching opportunities in the NHL.
Someone to learn from
Despite growing up under coaches like Babcock, St. Louis has proven to be a master at getting the best out of his younger players in Montreal, which is unfortunately the thing that led to Babcock's departure in Columbus.
Ultimately, if he hasn't changed between the issues in Toronto and his controversial approach in Columbus, it's likely never going to change for Babcock, while coaches like St. Louis, Jared Bednar and others thrive with the new age NHL players.
