It's no secret that over the course of his career, Mike Babcock has always managed to stir things up. His latest NHL stint was a short one: he couldn't even get behind the bench for a regular season game before being fired after a massive controversy struck the coach.
It appears that Babcock's coaching career in the NHL is done. After all that happened, it would be surprising to see an organization bringing him on board.
Especially since another story put Babcock in a bad light.
Yesterday, the former goaltender Jimmy Howard, who played under Babcock with the Detroit Red Wings when he was a rookie, shared a story about how Babcock could be with his players.
He stated that when he was up for the title of rookie of the year, Babcock said in a press conference right in front of him that he would vote for Tyler Myers, not Howard, to win the title.
Check out the following video to hear the story in his own words:
Good coaches don't diss their own players in front of the media. It was a completely classless move that could've truly hurt the confidence of a young hockey player trying to make his way into the League.
Howard ended up playing 543 games for the Detroit Red Wings between 2005 and 2020. He had a 246-196-70 record, and maintained a 0.912 SV% as well as a 2.62 GAA.
This is another example of why Babcock shouldn't come back in the NHL. Other stories could continue to come out in the next few years. Stay tuned.
