The former Leaf Mark Giordano is now 40-years-old, and he is still an unrestricted free agent (UFA) as no one has signed him yet.
Giordano recently made the shocking announcement that he has no plans to retire yet and wants to continue playing in the NHL even though he's in his 40s. His agent was recently interviewed by Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star, where he confirmed his intentions of playing.
Giordano is the NHL's all-time shot blocking leader and a true veteran. Signs are starting to show that he is getting up there in age, as he had a career-low nine points in the 46 games he played last season with the Maple Leafs, however he still feels that his time in the league isn't done, and he's confident he will find a team who is in need of his services.
Who knows, perhaps the Leafs circle back and try to get him to return to their team.
While there aren't any rumors currently circulating as to where Giordano may end up, it wouldn't be shocking to see him signed on a PTO basis with a team, as they might want to see how he performs first in training camp before offering him a contract, due to his age.
The Leafs do have a lot of defensemen on their team, so if Giordano were to return to them, he would likely either be a spare player who would see limited minutes, or perhaps even be signed to a two-way contract where he could spend some time with the AHL Toronto Marlies.
Mark Giordano has played in 1,148 games and has gotten 577 points. He would no doubt love to hit that 1,200 game mark, as well as the 600 point mark, seeing as how close he is to both feats.
