Despite being ruled out for two weeks, it appears the the Edmonton Oilers captain is making great strides in order to play in the Heritage Classic.
A spectacular return
With the Oilers struggling, posting just a 1-4-1 record through their first six games on the season, Connor McDavid was expected to miss the marquee matchup against the rival Calgary Flames.
However, recent reports have revealed that not only is the Oilers captain back on the ice, but he's taking part in every drill, a positive sign for Sunday's massive event.
A must-win affair
Between these two Alberta rivals, there have been just three wins in 13 gams thus far in 2023-24, making it a must-win for both games, but if McDavid returns, the Oilers become an even heavier favourite in this one.
Ultimately, the team need to be careful with his health, as he is key to their whole season and not just this matchup, but with the NHL putting so much stock into this and the Oilers struggling, it's the best case scenario for all parties (except the Flames) if he returns.
