The story of Corey Perry in Chicago was very short lived, but now, he may get a second lease on life in the NHL after a controversial exit from the Blackhawks organization.
While his departure from Chicago was controversial, it doesn't appear as though it's stopping teams showing their interest now that Commissioner Gary Bettman has officially cleared him to return.
Now, according to multiple sources, the Edmonton Oilers have emerged as a surprising front runner to land the veteran forward.
The Edmonton Oilers have emerged as frontrunners for F Corey Perry. Per, multiple sources including Chris Johnston and Frank Seravalli.
Does Correy Perry to the Edmonton Oilers make them favourites out West?
The Oilers have plenty to do if they wish to finally go deep in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season, and while Perry doesn't help them in net or on the blue line, he brings a great veteran grittiness that will be much needed down the stretch.
With a star-studded top-six, Perry would likely slot in for the Oilers in their bottom-six somewhere, and while he may not be a goal scoring machine, he could be the type of backbone this team has been begging for.
Ultimately, there's expected to be many teams emerging as candidates to land Perry over the coming days and weeks, and if it is the Oilers and they can pair it with another move or two, they could be in for a big year.
