It was a very controversial play involving Connor McDavid and Conor Garland, with the former getting tangled up and seemingly frustrated, leading to a cross-check to the face and creating a giant fracas between the Oilers and Canucks.
But the decision to suspend McDavid and Vancouver's Tyler Myers for three games each was sparked its own controversy, with half the fans calling for Gary Bettman's head, and the other half think it's sweet justice for the NHL's poster boy.
McDavid's three-game ban is going to harm the Oilers no doubt, but he could always try and plead his case to the League. However, according to sources the Edmonton superstar is not going to appeal his suspension for his actions.
While it is disappointing for both Oilers fans and for his teammates, but it shows that he understands that though he's the NHL's golden boy, he's not completely bulletproof.
Fans aren't happy with the NHL's decision to give McDavid a three-game ban however. Arguing that this is the reason the other pro sports leagues are consistently beating the NHL in ratings is due to their lack of protection.
Look, it's understandable that fans would be upset but McDavid knows what he signed up for.
As the world's best player, McDavid has arguably the biggest target on his back and while what Garland did was annoying and should have warranted a holding call, there's no reason for him to get sticked in the face and leading some to call him and the Oilers fans a bit overdramatic.
Edmonton will need to weather their next few games without the best player in the world, and it will be a true test for the rest of their stars to pick up the slack in his absence.
This season, McDavid has been his usual outstanding self with 20 goals and 45 assists for the second-place Oilers.
