With under an hour until the deadline, a prominent NHL insider has revealed that the Edmonton Oilers will not be matching the two offer sheets for Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg. As per Elliotte Friedman, the Oilers have decided to let the two players walk to the St. Louis Blues. They will be members of their new team for the 2024-25 NHL season.
This is going to shock Oilers fans, as it appeared just a few days ago that their team was going to match the offers. Both Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg would have provided a good amount of depth for the Oilers, so now they will likely have to go and search for it elsewhere. Many had a feeling the Oilers were planning something when Cody Ceci was traded to the San Jose Sharks, however the team appears set on taking the second and third round draft pick they will get for losing these two offer sheeted players, as well as gain significant cap space, which they desperately need.
Despite the fact that everyone appears to believe the Oilers are not matching the two offer sheets, they could still pull a fast unexpected move and shockingly announce they would, however that would be very unlikely at this point.
Philip Broberg was an 8th overall draft pick by the Oilers in 2019 and has played in 81 career games for the team. He scored two goals and had 13 points.
Dylan Holloway is also a first round pick by the team, as he was selected 14th overall in 2020. In his career 89 games, he's scored nine goals and added nine assists.
