Everyone is watching and waiting to see what the Edmonton Oilers are going to do this week with the two offer sheets they received for Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway last week.
The offers are only one dollar below what the next compensation tier would have been, which means that if the Oilers choose not to match these offers, they will receive a second round pick for Philip Broberg and a third round pick for Dylan Holloway.
The team recently made some moves over the last few days to clear up some cap space and allow them a little more flexibility. They traded Cody Ceci to the San Jose Sharks and acquired Vasili Podkolzin from the Vancouver Canucks.
The deadline for GM Stan Bowman and the Oilers to submit their decision on the offer sheets is Tuesday at 9:30 AM Eastern. While no one has heard about what their exact decision is going to be, some information appears to have leaked, giving away what they will ultimately choose to do. The source of the leak is the Oilers official NHL website.
Every NHL team lists the complete team roster on their official website. Yesterday on the Oilers site, Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg were listed. That proved to be a completely different story today, as both players were not appearing anymore on the roster list, likely giving away the decision that has already been made internally, which is that the Oilers will not be matching the offer sheets of both players.
This isn't just some glitch or error in the system, as the roster that appears online is very comprehensive and includes players way down the depth chart that are in the junior leagues, so what are the odds that the two players that received offer sheets have suddenly disappeared from the list? This is a clear sign that the team has decided internally already that they will not be matching the offers.
Fans around the league and especially in Oilers Nation will be tuning in bright and early in the morning to see what the team's final decision is, although they may already have a pretty good idea.
Philip Broberg was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in round one, with the 8th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He's played in 81 career games with the Oilers, having scored two goals and 13 points.
Dylan Holloway was also a first round pick, but in the 2020 NHL draft, and he was selected 14th overall by the Oilers. He's suited up in 89 games with the team, and scored nine goals and 18 points.
