During the Maple Leafs loss last night to the Florida Panthers, much of the talk surrounding the game was centered around Panthers forward Sam Bennett. Bennett was involved in two separate plays which Leafs fans viewed as suspend-able, and many were waiting for his possible suspension today. The NHL has finally reached its verdict, and it's not good for Bennett.
Bennett Fined Max Allowable Amount for Crosschecking Bunting
The NHL's Department of Player Safety has reached its verdict over whether or not Sam Bennett deserves supplemental discipline for his crosscheck last night. While the DoPS has determined that Bennett's actions are not suspend-able, he will receive a fine of $5,000.
This means that Bennett will be able to play in the Panthers next game against Toronto, and may have a target on his back due to his antics last night. We'll wait to see the reaction from fans on this decision.
