Widespread speculation over the last several months has indicated the future Hall of Fame goalie Marc-Andre Fleury will have a new home by the time the NHL trade deadline passes. Today Fleury revealed the destination he hopes to be playing in once the deadline passes.
Fleury Finally Reveals Where He Wants To Play After The Deadline
In a new interview with The Athletic Marc-Andre Fleury spoke about his impending future. When asked where he hopes to play the rest of the season Fleury had an interesting response.
If we were last in the conference, maybe it'd be a little bit different, Fleury told The Athletic on Saturday night. But this is my team. We've been battling together, right? I take pride in winning with this team. I want us to make the playoffs. That's my first priority. I think being in the hunt, it's fun, it's challenging. And I want to be here and see this team make the playoffs.
With Fleury now indicating his hope to stay in Minnesota one wonders if it changes their plans heading into the trade deadline.
Will Minnesota Make A Goaltending Move At The Deadline?
With Jesper Wallstedt knocking on the door of the NHL the Minnesota Wild could feel pressure to move out one of their goaltenders. The conversation around which goalie to pick is where things get interesting.
Filip Gustavsson has regressed quite a lot this season after an unreal season last year. With Gustavsson having two more seasons on his contract the Wild could want to get out from under his contract. The other option is moving the aging Fleury to a new home before you lose him for nothing.
If the Wild do decide to make a move with their goaltenders at the trade deadline it will be fun to see which direction they go.
