The Montreal Canadiens re-signed veteran defenseman Gustav Lindström to fill in for David Reinbacher while he recovers from his knee surgery.

We saw a lot of injuries this year in the preseason all over the NHL. Some teams lost key players, including the Montreal Canadiens. In the same game (against the Toronto Maple Leafs), the team lost both Laine and Reinbacher to injuries.

Laine is expected to miss between two and three months after a knee sprain, while David Reinbacher will miss five to six months after knee surgery.

Reinbacher was expected to play a big role in the AHL with the Laval Rocket this year, his first full season in North America. Alongside Logan Mailloux, Adam Engstrom, Owen Beck, and Joshua Roy, he would've competed in a great team, gaining valuable experience as he looks to develop into a full-time NHL player.

The Canadiens took care of finding a replacement to help the Rocket get a good start to the season.

In breaking news, they announced in a press release that they've agreed on the terms of a one-year, two-way contract with Gustav Lindstrom.

If this name sounds familiar, it's because the 25-year-old right-handed defenseman played 14 games with the Habs, and four with the Rocket last season, before being claimed on waivers by the Anaheim Ducks. He scored three goals and one assist with the Canadiens, and failed to score a point with the Rocket. He also took part in 32 games with the Ducks last season, scoring six assists, but no goals.

Right after confirming the signature, the organization announced that they placed him on waivers with the purpose of loaning him to the Rocket.

We'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if a team decides to claim the player, in what would certainly be a disappointing turn of events for the Canadiens.

Meanwhile, all eyes will be turned to their home-opening game against the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight. Fans are eager to see if we'll see some residual animosity from the preseason between the two teams. With both teams getting better and looking to achieve higher goals this season, the rivalry could reach another level. We can't wait to watch it unfold on the ice.
