In his first official day with the Montreal Canadiens, Patrik Laine has already made a lasting first impression after stepping in to defend his teammate during a recent practice.

Patrik Laine is working toward another major comeback in the NHL after some trials in tribulations in his eight-year career. After leaving the Winnipeg Jets looking for a new home, and subsequently the Columbus Blue Jackets following a long stay in the NHL/NHLPA Players Assistance Program, he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens with a 2026 second-round pick for Jordan Harris. He has now had his first day with the Habs, recently reviving his new #92 jersey in red.

Yet, he has made a greater impression on the ice than fans may know about. During his very first practice with the full team, he witnessed David Savard slam Michael Pezzetta int the boards. Though upon outsider view it seems this was an accident and Savard was checking in on the younger forward, Patrik Laine came in to defend Pezzetta, grabbing Savard from behind and pulling him away before realizing what was occurring.

The Montreal Canadiens have their first regular season game on Wednesday, October 9 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. While the team can rest assured knowing Patrik Laine will step in to defend his teammates, hopefully, he can learn to be more discerning on when it is the right time to do so in the next month.
