After injuring Connor Bedard with a questionably high hit, it looks like karma has struck this Devils' defenseman.

Unfortunately, no one can escape karma. While Brendan Smith's hit was only questionable on rookie sensation Connor Bedard, it looks like he has faced his karma, as he was just placed on the injured reserve list by the New Jersey Devils.

The Devils have since made moves to cover for the missing Smith, calling up defenseman Santeri Hatakka from the Utica Comets. Hatakka was acquired through the Timo Mier trade last season, and is now proving his worth in the trade.

Devils Beginning to Struggle At Unfortunate Point in the Season

The Devils are hitting a low point at an unfortunate point this season, as this is the time to begin ramping up. With the second half of the season under way for most teams, its time to start refining your play, and to be battling for a playoff spot isn't where you want to be for that.

They aren't far out of the race, though. Only a few points separates them and the three teams immediately ahead of them in the division. They are getting some good play out of their rookie netminder, Nico Daws as well, as he has been called up recently. We will see if the Devils choose to ride him during his success.

Nico Daws is worth 2.5 Goals Above Average according to Evolving-Wild's numbers That's a half a goal per game better than an average goalie.

He's played 5 games. There are only 7 Devils skaters that are worth more over the /season/.
