When the New York Rangers' General Manager acquired Vladimir Tarasenko and Patrick Kane before the NHL trade deadline, many in the hockey world believed the Rangers would be a force to reckon with in the playoffs. However, to the disappointment of Rangers fans, they were eliminated in the first round by the New Jersey Devils.
Rangers Fans Disappointed with Kane
Rangers fans were particularly critical of Tarasenko and Kane for their playoff performances, voicing their disappointment on social media. It was later revealed that Kane had sustained an injury during his stint in New York. His agent also disclosed that Kane had undergone a hip resurfacing procedure, which would necessitate a few months of recovery.
Kane Accused of Withholding Information About Health
Although Kane is expected to fully recover from the surgery, Rangers fans believe he and his agent might not have been entirely transparent about his injury's severity. They suspect that information may have been withheld from the Rangers organization in an effort to chase another Stanley Cup victory.
Elliotte Friedman would later reveal:
"Patrick Kane's representative, Pat Brisson, has stated that Kane underwent a hip resurfacing procedure today performed by Dr. Edwin Su. Follow-up appointments are planned, and a recovery period of approximately 4-6 months is expected. Brisson mentioned that Kane has a desire to continue playing for a long time, and doctors are optimistic about his future."
Rangers Could Have Acquired a Healthy Player
While Rangers' General Manager Chris Drury didn't have to give up as many assets as initially expected, fans argue that those assets could have been used to acquire a healthier player who could have made a more significant impact on the team.
