Jacob Trouba's massive hit almost turns into skate blade disaster
Captain Jacob Trouba of the New York Rangers nearly caused a bone-crushing collision during their thrilling 4-3 double overtime win.
In the first overtime, Trouba attempted a massive hit on Carolina center Martin Necas near the boards. However, Necas evaded the hit at the last moment, narrowly dodging Trouba's elbow.
As a result, Trouba careened headfirst into the boards, and his right leg landed on Necas's head as he fell. Fortunately, both players were unharmed and continued playing.
Known for delivering big hits, Trouba has faced several suspensions over his 11-year career, including a two-game penalty earlier this season for elbowing Vegas Golden Knights forward Pavel Dorofeyev in the head.
This wild near-collision during Tuesday night's game certainly got NHL fans talking.
Despite the drama, Trouba and the Rangers walked away from Game 2 with a victory, putting the Hurricanes in a tough 20 series deficit thanks to Vincent Trocheck's power-play goal in the second overtime.
