Jacob Trouba Traded to the Anaheim Ducks, Per Insiders
After months of speculation, the New York Rangers have finally moved Jacob Trouba, with a deal made official sending him to the Anaheim Ducks.
After trying to trade Jacob Trouba in the summer, Friday began with much more speculation about his future, with insiders all but certain he would be moved by the team this weekend, even speculating that he could be placed on waivers, although that ultimately never happened.
Jacob Trouba Officially Traded to the Anaheim Ducks
Now, things reportedly moved very quickly, with Larry Brooks of the New York Post the first to confirm that a deal was done, with Trouba heading West to join the Anaheim Ducks.
This all came together very quickly for New York, who were looking to dump the $8 million salary cap hit of Trouba, and in the Ducks they found a willing partner, with the return reportedly Urho Vaakanaian and a draft pick.
This report was then confirmed by Elliotte Friedman, and after a saga that dates back to the summer, we now finally have answers on Trouba, who was quickly traded as a salary cap dump despite being the Rangers active captain.
After quickly working to learn the official details of the trade, TSN's Pierre LeBrun confirmed that it will be a fourth-round pick heading to New York alongside the 25-year old former first-round draft pick Urho Vaakanaian.
Alongside that is perhaps the most important part of the trade, with LeBrun confirming that the Ducks are taking on the full remainder of Trouba's deal, with no salary to be retained by New York in the deal.
While Trouba was always solid in his time with New York, it was clear that he isn't cut out to be a top-four defenseman on a Stanley Cup winning team, and with New York looking to make major additions, they now have much more salary cap to make another potential deal with.
