Two New Teams Emerge in The Alex Debrincat Sweepstakes
The offseason is completely underway and more and more teams are interested in the top player on the trade market.
DeBrincat Drawing More Interest
With the offseason in full swing, there are many players rumored to be on the trade market. Of the players on the market, Alex DeBrincat is far and away the number one forward on the market.
With him being such a prolific goal scorer, he is drawing interest league wide, especially with teams not originally in the running to acquire him.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported a few GMs interested in DeBrincat's services.
"Three of the teams that are involved are 3 of the most secretive GMs in the NHL: Lou Lamoriello, Steve Yzerman and Pat Verbeek. I think Anaheim was interested, I think DeBrincat was starting to warm up to the idea because of some of the young players they've accumulated, I just don't think it's likely from what I understand right now"
The New Teams
It has been known that Detroit has been interested in DeBrincat for a while now. However, the Islanders and Ducks are two new options that are quite intriguing.
Anaheim has a plethora of young talent and the addition of DeBrincat would give them a bona fide goal scorer who can slot into their top line alongside talents like Troy Terry and Trevor Zegras.
The Islanders are also an interesting option. They have an aging core but still want to remain competitive. DeBrincat could be the perfect fit for the wing of Mat Barzal considering Barzal's playmaking ability and DeBrincat's scoring abilty.
Regardless of where DeBrincat goes, he will surely get a larger role and larger expectations considering how he is demanding an expensive contract worth well over $8 million a year.
