The Pittsburgh Penguins have officially reached a deal with Will Butcher.
He signed a one year, two-way contract, with an AAV of $775,000.
He was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in 2013 as the 123rd overall pick. In his NHL career, Butcher has scored 114 points in 275 games with the Devils and the Sabres.
Last season, he played in the AHL, scoring 43 points in 65 games with the Texas Stars. He led his team and set a franchise record for the most assists by a defenseman in a season.
In the 2017-2018 season, he was selected for the NHL's All-Star Rookie Team after leading all other rookie defensemen in points, ranking third among all rookies.
During the 2016-2017 season, he won the Hobey Baker Trophy, awarded to the NCAA's MVP, and later won the USA Hockey's College Player of the Year Award.
The Penguins are acquiring a great defenseman who has a lot to prove in order to regain the level he reached at the start of his NHL career.
