Kyle Dubas Reportedly Struggling to Re-Sign Penguins Star
Kyle Dubas has been active in his new role as President of Hockey Operations with Pittsburgh, signing the likes of Ty Smith, Noel Acciari, Lars Eller, and even some depth in goal while trying to secure Tristan Jarry.
His shortcomings, though, are in who he hasn't signed yet. Star winger Jake Guentzel's contract is set to expire after the 2023-24 season, and it's reported that Dubas has yet to make contact with his team regarding an extension.
No Progress on Guentzel
Being held out from negotiations is something that has plagued Dubas in his previous tenure as GM for the Toronto Maple Leafs, with stars like William Nylander and Mitch Marner holding out for large contracts during their negotiations.
His negotiation ability is something that Dubas has been criticized for in the past.
Luckily for Dubas, his "Core 2" Superstars in Malkin and Crosby are locked in with Pittsburgh for another 2 years, at minimum. The task at hand will be filling the wings beside them, and fielding a roster worthy of a run for the cup.
