Kyle Dubas becomes the Pittsburgh Penguins President of Hockey Operations
The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced that Dubas has been officially hired by the team, but as President of Hockey Operations.
This is indeed a promotion for Dubas, as he now has the same level of autonomy as Brenden Shanahan, the person he worked under in Toronto.
"We are thrilled to welcome Kyle to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Throughout his career, Kyle has proven himself as a forward-thinking hockey mind and embodies all of the qualities - integrity, intelligence, and an unwavering commitment to building a winning culture - that we value in a leader at the Penguins and within Fenway Sports Group." - Fenway Sports Group Principal Owner John Henry
Dubas spent nine years with the Leafs, including the last five as GM. It seemed like a done deal that he would return, but things changed after Toronto was eliminated in the second round, and his contract was allowed to run out.
Pittsburgh previously had Brian Burke has it's Hockey Ops President, with Ron Hextall serving as general manager. It's a safe assumption Dubas will choose the next GM for the Penguins.
