The hockey world lost a great player and reportedly a better person over the weekend, and now, his former NHL team has honoured his legacy.
A heartwarming gesture
Ahead of their game against the Anaheim Ducks, the Penguins announced via social media that they would wear 'AJ 47' decals on their helmets in honour of their former teammate.
Honoring and remembering 💛
Tonight the Penguins will wear an AJ 47' decal on their helmets for their former teammate, Adam Johnson.
There will be a pre-game ceremony and celebration of life after warmups.
It's unclear whether or not these will remain beyond tonight's game, but even the smallest gesture like this from Pittsburgh goes a long way to honouring what type of player and person Johnson was.
A tearful tribute
This comes after captain Sidney Crosby, who was in Pittsburgh for Adam's 13 career games offered a tearful tribute to Johnson's family.
Along with that, the Ontario Reign, for whom Johnson played 42 games with honour him by celebrating his life ahead of their last game.
These are all great tributes for a player that was clearly beloved wherever we went, and we again take the opportunity to send condolence's to Adam's family, friends, loved ones and former teammates.
