Despite the growing speculation, it seems like Sidney Crosby intends to sign an extension with the Penguins as soon as he is eligible.
Pittsburgh Penguins Captain Sidney Crosby is apparently close to signing an extension with the team that drafted him back in 2005 according to insider Dave Pagnotta from the Fourth Period.
Sidney Crosby is having a phenomenal season at the age of 37. The captain has 33 goals and 35 assists for 68 points in 67 games this season, showing he can still do it at his age.
Next season will be Crosby's last in his current deal that was signed back in 2012, earning him $8.7 million a season. He can only sign an extension on July 1st of 2024 as his contract still runs through during the 2024-25 season.
All signs point to Kyle Dubas wanting to try and keep the core competitive with a couple off-season shake ups, and it starts with a Crosby extension.
By the time a new deal would take place, Crosby would be 38 years old. It would most likely be his final deal with the NHL as he looks to take the Penguins as far as he can, for as long as he can play. All signs point to him retiring as a Pittsburgh Penguin if he decides to sign an extension.
We honestly don't see Sid in any other jersey than the Penguin, therefore it would be instrumental to see him retire as one. He will arguably go down as one of the best Pittsburgh Penguins in franchise history.
