This summer has been one of plenty of change for the Pittsburgh Penguins, with their recent acquisition of Rutger McGroarty capping off some significant moves over the past few months. One thing that they haven't yet sorted however is the next contract of captain and franchise legend Sidney Crosby, despite rumours that it would be done on his birthday, August 7th.
Now, in a recent interview, No. 87 has expressed plenty of optimism that a deal is about to be done, and while he doesn't know when it will become official, he's highly optimistic that a new contract will get done.
At 36-years of age, Sidney Crosby still put together an incredible season a year ago, with 42 goals and 94 points showing that he remains one of the NHL's best players, and should continue doing this at a high level for a long time to come.
With the team in an odd phase, looking to the future while also looking to keep their veteran stars around, it's unclear what a deal for Crosby will look like moving forward, but if they still plan to compete this season and beyond, No. 87 will be able to help with that, so expect him to get paid handsomely ahead of the 2024/25 season.
