For weeks, there have been rumblings of the possibility that former Montreal Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty would join the Toronto Maple Leafs, and now it seems it's all but a done deal. Frank Seravalli did note the Toronto club still have some salary cap issues to work out, which could include a trade prior to the signing becoming official, but both sides appear fairly confident it's getting done.
At 35, Max Pacioretty has only been able to suit up for 52 games over the last two seasons, and just once since 2018 has he played more than 70 games. Still, with experience and scoring ability, he could be a top add to the Leafs bottom six. He has fought through some tough injuries, such as a torn Achilles, for one, but did return last season with four goals and 23 points in 47 games for Washington. Surrounded by the talent that Toronto possesses, his impact could be even greater.
It would probably require the Leafs dealing someone of the likes of Ryan Reaves, David Kampf, or Calle Jarnkrok to open up cap space, but should Max Pacioretty return to form, it could be a game-changer for a Leafs team gunning for the Stanley Cup.
