Torey Krug has been one of the NHL's best defenseman in recent years, but after a tragic diagnosis, his career may ultimately be cut short.
Given how physical the sport of hockey is, every player on the ice is in major jeopardy of an injury that could change their career, and unfortunately, that may just be happening to St. Louis Blues defenseman Torey Krug. The 33-year old played in 77 games a season ago, but now has received the diagnosis of pre-arthritic changes in his left ankle.
NEWS: #StlBlues D Torey Krug has been diagnosed with pre-arthritic changes in his left ankle.
The injury is a cumulative result of a bone fracture from earlier in his career.
He will rehab the next 6-8 weeks, and if surgery is required, he will miss all of the 2024-25 season.
What that means for the veteran blue liner is that if he can't get past this with simply rehab, he will require surgery, meaning that the 2024/25 regular season will be over for him, and as he approaches 34-years of age, it could be his career too.
It's unclear at this point what his chances are of getting through rehab and taking the ice for the Blues in 2024/25, but after being relatively healthy throughout his career, this will be a devastating blow for Krug and the Blues on the ice.
