The Seattle Kraken felt as if they had won the lottery when Shane Wright was still available for them to select as the 4th overall pick. Many speculated that teams such as the Montreal Canadiens would regret passing him over. However, after Wright failed to make the full-time Kraken roster this season, he was returned to junior hockey.
Shane Wright's Struggles to Make an Impact
In a surprising turn of events, Wright was acquired by the Windsor Spitfires amidst a competitive bidding war. Unfortunately, Wright's tenure with the Spitfires didn't go as planned as they were swept by the 8th seeded Kitchener Rangers.
Swept By The Rangers
Following this setback, Wright was promoted to the Kraken's AHL affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds, who are currently contending in the Calder Cup final. Despite the opportunity, Wright's performance has been underwhelming, with just four points in 12 games. Consequently, he has been designated as a healthy scratch by the Firebirds.
Given the high expectations associated with his potential, Wright's current situation doesn't bode well. If the current trend continues, he could unfortunately end up being one of the biggest busts in NHL history.
