Auston Matthews Reportedly Not Ready to Commit to the Maple Leafs
Auston Matthews is due for a new contract in Toronto, but fans may not be thrilled with the details.
Reports indicate that Matthews is unwilling to commit to the Leafs long-term, and the team may only be able to keep their superstar for a few more years.
Short-Term Deal for Auston Matthews
Per Elliotte Friedman, a Matthews extension will be between three and five years. While most superstars commit to their teams for max term, Matthews clearly has other ideas.
Disappointing to See
It's disappointing to see Matthews unwilling to stay in Toronto for the prime of his career, but hopefully the team can win a Stanley Cup while he is still there.
It is always possible that things change, but it's looking like Matthews will stick around until his late-20s. From there, we'll see what happens.
