The Toronto Maple Leafs season is fully underway with their second game of the season. They are on a roll and a lot of it is thanks to superstar Auston Matthews.
Matthews Gets His Second Hat Trick In Two Games
Auston Matthews is off to a ridiculous start to the season with back-to-back hat tricks. The Maple Leafs are currently up in the game against the Minnesota Wild 7-3 and Matthews has been all over the game.

Is that good?
TWO GAMES, TWO HAT TRICKS
Auston Matthews is the first player to start the season with back-to-back hat tricks since Alex Ovechkin in 2017-18
Per @PR_NHL: Auston Matthews is one of only five players in NHL history to record a hat trick in each of their first two games to start the season, joining Alex Ovechkin (2017-18), Cy Denneny (1917-18), Joe Malone (1917-18) and Reg Noble (1917-18).
Matthews is in an elite goal-scoring company to start the NHL season. Matthews of course is no stranger to hot goal-scoring starts after all his career began with a 4 goal game.
The Maple Leafs are on their way to being 2-0 to start the season and a ton of that is thanks to Matthews. The Leafs' best player has been all-world so far this season. With his current pace, Matthews is projected for 246 goals. Now of course this total and pace is not at all attainable.
Matthews could however be on his way to his career high in goals. His high is of course the 60-goal season from 2021-22. Many believed this would be Matthews' high in goals for a long time but he is now on a mission to shatter that total.
