Brad Treliving Reveals What We Should Expect From the Toronto Maple Leafs this Season
In a recent interview, Brad Treliving revealed what fans can expect from his first year with the club and the new-look Leafs, their first without Dubas since 2014.
Tough Treliving
There's no question that Treliving has made changes to try and make the Leafs a tougher team to play against. His belief is that you need this style of play to be successful in the playoffs. In his interview, he said the following on the matter.
"There's a style that I think you need to have. Not only do I think it is a part of what I like, but if you look around the league, there's a type of style that you need to have success in the playoffs." - Treliving
This may just be the first time that the Leafs organization has really leaned into a new style of play required in the playoffs, and that their skill-centric lineup might not have been the most optimal for playoff performance.
A new Look Leafs
While the core of the organization remains in Tavares, Matthews, Marner and Nylander, it's now clear that Treliving wants the team to head in a different direction in terms of style of play.
This should be refreshing for Leafs' fans. It has been 8 years of trying to out-skill opponents in the playoffs, only to have stars be shut down and then the rest of the team be completely out-toughed.
It's only a matter of time until we see if Treliving's vision will come to life.
