Simmonds To The Metro

Wayne Simmonds is still available on the free agent market. With the season fast approaching one reporter thinks that the perfect fit for Simmonds might be possible.

This would be a homecoming of sorts for Simmonds as he played in Philadelphia for 8 years. During those 8 years, Simmonds played 584 games and amassed 378 points. He was also one of the leaders in that organization throughout his time in Philly.

The Flyers are in the midst of a rebuild. New General Manager Daniel Briere has made some massive changes to the roster and organization as a whole since coming on board. Now he has an opportunity to bring back a fan favorite to help build the new Flyers culture.

Wayne Simmonds and Daniel Briere did cross paths for roughly two seasons in Philadelphia. Simmonds had just been traded in from Los Angeles and Briere was on the tail end of his stint with the Flyers. The familiarity might help to make the deal a reality.

This deal would be one that the fans would love. A former fan favorite gets to wear the Flyer on his chest one last time while setting up the next generation for success. From the team's perspective, they add leadership off the ice and a physical presence on the ice to help build the organization back up.
