Former Maple Leafs Placed On Waivers For Contract Termination
The Maple Leafs and the Blackhawks made a massive trade last week. Toronto acquired Jake McCabe, Sam Lafferty, a conditional 5th round pick in 2024 and a conditional 5th round pick in 2025 from Chicago in exchange for a conditional 2025 1st round pick, 2026 2nd round pick, Joey Anderson and Pavel Gogolev. The Blackhawks just made an announcement about one of their newly acquired player.
The Chicago Blackhawks have placed Pavel Gogolev on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract.
After the trade, Gogolev reported to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL where he played two games and scored one goal. However, the Blackhawks have now made the surprising decision to terminate his contract.
This move is not uncommon in professional sports, but it is unusual for a player to be terminated so quickly after being acquired in a trade.
Teams have until tomorrow to claim him.
