Ilya Samsonov Makes A Massive Change In Hopes To Overcome Bad Luck
Ilya Samsonov has struggled to begin this NHL season. He has decided to make a big change in hopes of turning things around.
Samsonov Struggles To Begin The Year
Ilya Samsonov has played 4 games this season and struggled in pretty much every single one. He currently has a 4.34 goals against average and a 0.831 save percentage this season.
These numbers are just simply not good enough if the Maple Leafs are going to be a contender. As a result of his struggles Ilya Samsonov is reportedly making a big equipment change.
Samsonov Makes A Massive Change
A new post on X has confirmed that Ilya Samsonov is changing goalie masks. He had originally come into the season with a new mask inspired by Curtis Joseph's Cujo mask. Now he is returning to a familiar look.
Ilya Samsonov is wearing his old mask at the morning skate.
NHL players are often known for being superstitious. With this in mind Samsonov could be thinking the mask is the big difference in his performance. For the Maple Leafs and their fans he better be right and be able to turn things around quickly.
He is currently expected to be the backup tonight against the Dallas Stars. We should get another look at the mask in warmups to see if the switch is official.
