Carl Klingberg, brother of Leaf's defenceman John Klingberg, was under investigation, and the ruling has been determined.

Klingberg Under investigation for Match Fixing

Carl Klingberg plays in the Swedish Hockey League, and was under investigation for comments he made after an 8-2 win. After the win, he joked around with reporters saying that he asked his teammates to stop scoring at 8-2, as one of the teams well known supporters always bets for them to win 8-2.

The comments were immediately reported to the Country's gambling authority.

Klingberg Deemed Not Guilty of Match Fixing According to Authorities

Recently, the Swedish Ice Hockey Association released a statement exonerating Klingberg from the accusations.

"The thorough investigation conducted by the Swedish Ice Hockey Association's competition department shows no signs of suspected gambling or manipulation of sporting results in order to benefit himself or other parties."

"There is no indication of match fixing and therefore no reason for us to report the player to the disciplinary committee. However, we seriously consider that the player with his statement in the media, even if it was in a joking tone, normalized match fixing. We see no place whatsoever in ice hockey for match fixing or illegal betting." - Swedish Ice Hockey Association

It's clear that gambling is becoming more a part of hockey, in nearly all professional leagues, and its likely that issues like this will continue to pop up as they sort out the kinks.
