Vyacheslav Peksa is an under-the-radar prospect for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Drafted in the 6th round of the 2021 draft, Peksa has been generally unknown thus far aside from die-hard Leafs fans and prospecting enthusiasts.
However, he has a case for being one of the Leafs' better prospects. Last season he played in the VHL (the Russian AHL) where he posted strong numbers. In 40 games Peksa registered a 2.34 GAA and a .921 sv%. He did this as a 20-year-old playing against men in the VHL.
In May of this year, the Maple Leafs signed Peksa to an entry-level contract.
He was soon loaded back to the KHL but it appears that Peksa may not be heading back to Russia.
Recently, Peksa made a post to his Instagram showing some Maple Leaf-inspired blue pads. The problem with this is that the Blue pads do not fit his loaned team's forest green colorway.
It appears that Peksa may be sticking around in Toronto and will likely be joining the Marlies next year. This is massive as it gives the Leafs so much more control in his development and can give him what they feel is best for his future.
We will now have to wait and see how he performs next season before making any definitive statements on his NHL future.
