The Toronto Maple Leafs can't seem to keep themselves away from drama, and it just seems to keep getting worse! Sheldon Keefe's former teammate and ex-convict Mike Danton has come out with a statement regarding the controversies surrounding the Maple Leafs.
Danton Takes Aim at Maple Leafs Ahead of Game Two
Most Leafs fans are familiar at this point with the alleged bias of NHL referee Wes McCauley against Toronto. It was a hot topic of conversation following game one of the quarterfinals, in which the Leafs lost 7-3. Many think that McCauley has a personal vendetta against the Leafs, and now a new person has thrown themselves into the mix of all this drama.
Mike Danton is a former teammate of Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe, and the two played together under controversial juniors coach Dave Frost. Frost was put on trial for player mistreatment, and Keefe helped Danton by testifying against Frost.
Danton came under attack by Leafs fans recently for his involvement in the trial, and he decided to put out a statement regarding the Leafs, and why they can't seem to find success in the playoffs.
Thanks for all of the derogatory comments and messages about a mistake I made almost twenty years ago. I almost forgot that I had gone to jail.
I'm not going to comment on Wes McCauley, Dave Frost or Sheldon Keefe because you'll either complain that it's rehearsed rhetoric or won't believe it unless it fits the narrative you want it to.
Instead, I'm going to comment on WHY the Leafs actually lost that game, and what their issuehas been for the last several years.
They're soft as baby shit!
That's it, that's all! Their top players have no jam, play on the outside and are more interested in flopping around on the ice than getting to dirty areas and paying the price. It surprises me that a coach whom has all the knowledge and assets afforded to him still cannot address the issues at hand.
I, for one, am not a Leafs fan at all. However, I am a hockey fan even though my interest is dwindling. It would be great for hockey if the Leafs could pull their heads from their asses at some point and win a Cup.
That is not going to happen with Matthews, Marner, JT, Nylander, etc leading this group. They don't have what it takes. Any hockey person knows this, and the only people that are living in a fantasy world are the diehard fans that rely on hope and wishfulness. Therefore, instead of dragging up the past from 20-30 years ago (that is also false in almost every regard) in an attempt to deflect away what the actual issues are, deal with them head on. Then, maybe you'll make some headway!
Danton seems to be handling the criticisms against him just fine, and provided some of his thoughts on the current state of the Leafs. After putting out this statement, fans started looking into the connection between Danton and Keefe's former coach Frost, and Wes McCauley.
What was revealed is that Frost is the brother in law of McCauley, and some fans have began to draw a connection between the Leafs misfortune when McCauley is reffing and his connection to the man Keefe testified against.
Could it be possible that McCauley is intentionally calling stricter games against the Leafs to get back at Keefe for his testimony against his brother-in-law?
