Maple Leafs President Has Been Honored In A Massive Way
Brendan Shanahan has been recognized for his playing and executive leadership as he was inducted into a hall of fame.
Shanahan Already Recognized for His Playing Days
Brendan Shanahan has already been recognized for his unbelievable career as a hockey player, being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013 for his successful time in the NHL. Shanahan won three Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings (1997, 1998, 2002), played in over 1500 NHL games, and recorded 1354 career points.
Now, Shanahan is being recognized for his efforts on and off the ice, being inducted into another hall of fame.
Shanahan Inducted Into Ontario Sports Hall of Fame
It was announced that Shanahan will be inducted into the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame, in the class of '23. Among others in the class are legendary play-by-play announcer Joe Bowen, referee Bryan Lewis, national women's team forward Jayna Hefford, and retired NHLer Steve Ludzik. Shanahan explained just how important this hall of fame was to him as he grew up in Ontario and that he was excited to be included with his class.
«Having roots here for me is important, but what's more exciting is the people I'm going in with, These were people I looked up to, in hockey and in sports in general.»
He went on to give a shoutout to the late legendary lacrosse player and inductee Gaylord Powless, noting his and his family's experience playing lacrosse growing up.
«I'll give a special shout-out to Gaylord,» Shanahan said of the Six Nations player from Brantford. «He was a hero to my older brothers, a legend in lacrosse circles as was the entire Powless family. There are still many playing and my brother Brian played with them.»
Shanahan will hope to translate his success and recognition to the Toronto Maple Leafs this year.
