The Toronto Maple Leafs have changed quite a lot since we last saw them on the ice. New General Manager Brad Treliving was brought in and along with him several new players. Now one of those players might be in line for a shot at a top line role.
Maple Leafs New Additions Looking To Bring Maple Leafs To Glory
The Toronto Maple Leafs made several big additions this offseason in hopes of better playoff success. Players like John Klingberg, Tyler Bertuzzi, Max Domi, and Ryan Reaves were all brought in to fill specific roles in Toronto.
Some were brought in to improve team toughness like Reaves. Others were brought in to improve the offense such as Klingberg and Domi. While Tyler Bertuzzi is a blend of both
Since their signings media and fans have been wondering how each of these players will be used. With Klingberg and Reaves the answer is a lot more straightforward.
Klingberg will bring an offensive presence to the top four of the Maple Leafs defense to take pressure off of Morgan Rielly. Reaves on the other hand will be the team enforcer. With Domi and Bertuzzi the answer is less clear. Now one report suggests they might know the best role for one of these players.
Bertuzzi A Perfect Fit For The Top Line?
A new article took a deep dive into Tyler Bertuzzi and his role in Toronto with the Maple Leafs. Since his signing many have wondered what his role on the team might look like. He has recently been skating with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner.
«I came in two or three weeks ago to meet all the guys, skate and work out, get to know everyone,» Bertuzzi said. «I've been skating with Auston and Mitch, working out with them (and other Leafs at the practice facility).»
He was asked about the possibility of playing on the top line with those two and here was his response.
«That's up to coach (Sheldon Keefe),» Bertuzzi said Monday in his first face-to-face scrum with Toronto media at the team's charity golf event at Rattlesnake Point in Milton. «Time will tell.»
During this interview Bertuzzi was asked what he expects to be able to bring to the Maple Leafs lineup.
«I want to bring my game; energy, being in front of the net, hounding pucks.»
These traits are things that the Toronto Maple Leafs and their fans have been clamoring for the past few seasons. Bertuzzi could be the missing piece that brings the Maple Leafs to better playoff success.
It will be interesting to see what lines the Maple Leafs try during training camp and preseason.
