The Maple Leafs have faced several injuries in recent weeks.

One of the most severe has been Ryan O'Reilly's. He got injured on March 4 when he was accidentally hit by Auston Matthews, resulting in a broken finger.

A few days afterward, Coach Keefe announced a recovery timeline of four weeks, which means the 2019 Conn Smythe Trophy winner could return to play in early April.

Sheldon Keefe Gives Major Update About Ryan O'Reilly

O'Reilly had been practicing in Toronto for the past week or so, but the Leafs brought him to Florida midway through their road trip to continue his recovery.

"Yesterday was his first time truly handling and shooting pucks, and today he's taking another step out here. He's definitely making progress.

He's feeling better, but they're going to be very cautious with it. It's one thing to handle pucks and shoot, but contact, particularly for a center taking faceoffs and the like, is another matter. They're going to ensure the finger has enough time to heal and minimize any risk of re-injury." - Sheldon Keefe on Ryan O'Reilly

The Leafs obtained the 2019 Stanley Cup champion from the St. Louis Blues, along with Noel Acciari, in exchange for four draft picks (including a first-round pick in 2023) and players Adam Gaudette and Mikhail Abramov.

Since joining the Leafs, the 32-year-old O'Reilly has contributed three goals and two assists in eight games.
